Principal’s Message
Welcome to the Eastbrook Middle School!

Todd Lunsford
Principal
Welcome to Eastbrook Middle School! It is an honor to be entering my second year as principal and to serve in this wonderful school community. EMS is blessed with a caring staff who engage students with innovation in the classroom, encourage excellence throughout our school, and have a heart for serving our students and the community. Our mission is that students stepping into EMS as sixth grade students gain the necessary skills, content, and experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom, that lead to unlimited success when entering high school and life outside of the four walls of our building.
Eastbrook Middle School runs on an eight period day. Students study core subjects (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) in each grade level, along with one other required course (6th grade – Academic Intervention/Physical Education, 7th grade – Art/Family and Consumer Sciences, 8th grade – Computing Foundations/Preparing for College and Careers). All students are assigned to a homeroom class where they can establish a closer mentorship with one teacher throughout the year. This period is also utilized to focus on character development, goal setting, soft skills, study habits, and team building.
We also believe in the importance of student choice, which allows students to choose two classes each year that pertain to their interests. Students can select from over a dozen electives in Agriculture, Band, Choir, Creative Drama, Exploring World Languages, Exploring Music, Family and Consumer Sciences, Flight and Space, French, Green Architecture, Physical Education, Spanish, and Two-Dimensional Art. Partnering these elective offerings with numerous athletics, clubs, and extracurricular offerings – we truly believe there is something for everyone at EMS!
We find that it is pivotal to prioritize a game plan for each student to find success. Students with an individualized education program may have a resource study hall to receive more immediate and direct instruction to support their learning. Students on a more accelerated course of study are permitted to take advanced foreign language, math, and/or science courses beginning in seventh grade. By the end of eighth grade, students are able to earn up to six high school credits before entering high school by taking Algebra I, Biology, Computing Foundations, French, Preparing for College and Careers, Spanish, and/or Two-Dimensional Art. High ability students in grades six through eight are grouped together by grade level daily to study together, develop passion projects, and to solve more complex problems within various lessons and activities. We are proud of the many creative, innovative, and engaging ways that we meet students where they are at in their educational journey.
At Eastbrook Middle School, we ultimately desire to partner with parents and families to ensure the highest quality education for their student – fully realizing the important asset you are entrusting in our care. We encourage you to attend parent-teacher conferences in the fall, read our monthly newsletter, check your student’s grades on Skyward weekly, regularly communicate with teachers through the ParentSquare app, and to let us know if there is a way that we can better support your student. In response, we find that middle school students have the greatest success academically, emotionally, and socially when they have daily conversations with their parents about school, peers, and interests, have a dedicated space to complete schoolwork at home, participate in athletics, clubs, or extracurricular activities, and do not have a smartphone made available to them during their middle school years. I am confident that in working together on the items above, your student can fully realize their potential during their middle school years at EMS!
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if there is any way I can better connect you to the great things that are happening here at Eastbrook Middle School. Thank you for taking the time to explore our website. We are anticipating an incredible 2025-2026 school year!
